G L Quine —Specialist Ground Engineering Contractors
Building land is in increasingly short supply in the UK.
Consequently sites that suffer from geological or man made sub soil defects are becoming a viable proposition for development, providing that those problems can be overcome.
G L Quine specialise in the execution of small to medium size contracts, carrying out works to stabilise weak soils or to provide the means of constructing foundations to a bearing capable of taking building loads.
DRILLING AND GROUTING
We offer a range of cement and chemical grouting services which can be applied to a number of situations.
Stabilisation of Existing Structures
This method involves drilling through the full depth of underlying weak strata and consolidation of the material by the injection of a suitable grout to tighten up to the underside of the existing foundation.
In another example, loose fill is drilled into and grout is introduced to stabilise the material and increase its breaking capabilities.
Consolidation Grouting of Underground Voids, shallow workings and mine shafts
The technique usually involves the pumping of a weak cement/PFA grout to fill the void. Where necessary, barriers formed by block walls, concrete and/or course aggregate injected into peripheral holes are initially installed to limit the extent of the infill grout to the designated area.
Leak Sealing of Structures
Where water penetration occurs, leakages can be minimised and in many cases, completely sealed by pressure grouting techniques. The method involves drilling usually through the full thickness of the structure and the injection of a cement and/or chemical grout, to establish a skin of consolidated strata around the outside of the structure and also to fill and seal major fractures in the structure itself.
MINI PILING
G L Quine offer a range of mini-pile systems that can be used both to underpin and to provide additional bearing capacity in new structures.
The type of pile used is tailored to meet the specific requirements of the project in terms of structure type, ground conditions, loadings and access.
The piles are generally used in conjunction with needle beams, cantilever beams (where ground conditions are suitable) and reinforced concrete foundations.
Piles can be installed through existing concrete foundations , raft slabs and floor slabs, reducing the extent of reconstruction afterwards. The equipment, mini rig or Grundomat, is capable of working within buildings and at low headroom.
SOIL NAILING, GROUND AND MASONRY ANCHORS
G L Quine are approved installers of both the Ischebeck Titan and Cintec range of anchor products. These products can be used in a number of applications including as a tie back anchor and as a soil nailing solution.
More details can be found at www.ischebeck-titan.co.uk and www.cintec.com
UNDERPINNING
G L Quine has extensive experience in carrying out underpinning works.
Often used in combination with mini piling, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
We work through insurance companies, consultant engineers or directly to the client.
As members of ASUC, The Association of Specialist Underpinning Contractors, this offers householders the opportunity to benefit from cover of the ASUC plus Defects Insurance Guarantee (DIG). Further details of the scheme can be found at www.asuc.org.uk/guarantee.html or you can contact us for further details.
